Stop Smart Meters – 7/21/2012 10:53:00 AM

I’ve been voicing concerns about electromagnetic radiation (EMR), including radio frequency radiation from cell phones, baby monitors, cordless phones, wifi, etc.,for years. When the so-called smart meters arrived on the scene I was alarmed. They operate in the microwave frequency range and you can’t shut them off. They operate 24/7/365 and they can’t be moved as they are mounted on the side of your home/school/hospital/office building. They interact with other smart meters in a mesh grid, compounding the EMR problem.

When smart meters came to my neighborhood on Maui I had to do something so I created www.StopSmartMetersHawaii.com. Please check it out for facts about smart meters and valuable resources. While you’re there please sign the petition to stop smart meters in Hawaii. If you care about Hawaii help protect paradise from this dangerous new technology.

Optimizing Your Life Energy! – 11/28/2011 5:42:00 PM

As the author of more than 30 books, including the bestselling series Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff, Dr. Richard Carlson helped millions of people create lives of greater peace, connection and caring by focusing on the more important things in life. The last chapter of one of his books is titled "Live This Day As If It Might Be Your Last. It Might Be!" Ironically and sadly, Carlson died unexpectedly at age 45 on a plane flight to New York.

How better to drive home his point?

We really don’t know how long we have in this life. Yet, we spend so much of our life energy mulling over what’s in the past or worrying about what the future holds. We get caught up in the minutia of life, losing sight of the bigger picture of what’s actually important.

How much energy would we free up by living more in the now? How can we optimize the time we have? Here are some ideas:

* Clarify your values and create a life purpose statement. The clearer you are about what’s deeply important to you (your values) and who you are at your core, the more likely you will succeed in living your life "on purpose." Your purpose statement is a guidepost for knowing if you’re going in the right direction and provides information to put you back on course if you’re not acting in alignment with your values and life mission.

* Let the past be the past. How much time do you spend thinking about the past? Do you re-live old memories over and over, or think about what you should have said or done? Do you wish things were like they were in the "good ol’ days?" Whether it’s letting go of anger at the driver who cut you off just this morning, or regretting the loss of your first love, living in the past keeps you from fully experiencing your life right here, right now.

* Release worrying about the future. Mark Twain said something like: I have been through some terrible things in my life, most of which never happened. So much of what we worry about doesn’t happen, yet we spend countless hours and huge amounts of energy battling fantasy problems. Notice how much time you spend worrying about the future and gently remind yourself to return to the present. What physical reminder can you give yourself right now (a post-it note, a ribbon around your wrist) that will help anchor you in the present?

* Keep things in perspective. It’s usually our attachment to things being a certain way that leads to frustration. Practice accepting "what is" if you want to experience a greater sense of peace. Everything that happens is by divine design. Therefore, everything that happens is our teacher. We might not have chosen the timing of these lessons, and don’t necessarily have to enjoy them; however, if we choose the perspective that things happen "for us" and not "to us," life becomes a much more growth-filled, joyous ride!

How Do You Handle Change? – 11/28/2011 5:47:00 PM

The Times They Are A-Changin’
as Bob Dylan aptly put it. We need not look far to see this is a time of instability in economic and social structures. Are you equipped with enough inner flexibility that you can be resilient in moving through the changes that must come? Are you sufficiently connected with your High Self so that you can draw upon those internal resources? Are you situated in personal circumstances in such a way that you may successfully surf the waves of change globally and in your personal world?

When connected with Higher Consciousness you become much more resourceful. Fear loses its power and you become able to recognize the opportunities in rapidly changing circumstances.

All change carries with it the risk of the unknown and the unexpected. Some find this exciting and welcome the challenge. Others go down the path of change reluctantly, resisting all the way. A conscious awareness of your response to change can help you better prepare yourself for the changes now set in motion.

Answer the following questions to find out how well you cope with change. You won’t be scored at the end, but reflect on those that seem especially relevant and challenging ... and consider changing them! :)

Quiz:
How Well Do You Cope With Change?

T / F 1. I hesitate to make a change until everything seems 100% right.

T / F 2. I don’t make changes until they are forced on me.

T / F 3. Generally, I look forward to change as exciting and challenging.

T / F 4. I’m the kind of person who has to be totally fed up before I’ll make any changes.

T / F 5. When confronted with a change over which I have little control, I review the events and my behavior to determine if I could have done anything differently.

T / F 6. Rather than feeling responsible for negative changes that come out of nowhere, I take responsibility for my reaction to them.

T / F 7. I realize that sometimes even "good" changes have an underside that may bring unexpected problems.

T / F 8. I realize that a positive change in one area of my life won’t smooth out all my problems.

T / F 9. When coming to terms with a major change in my life, I attempt to keep other changes to a minimum.

T / F 10. When a change or transition occurs, I review how I have handled other such events in my life for lessons on how to deal with this event.

T / F 11. I look for other people who have undergone similar changes as models for how I might better handle the change in my life.

T / F 12. During a time of change, I ask for help and support from those close to me, reliable friends and outside professionals.

T / F 13. After a life change, I step back from the situation to get perspective and rest in order to regain a sense of balance.

T / F 14. I try to look at the "big picture" of the change, and acknowledge any mixed feelings I might have.

T / F 15. Rather than blaming or feeling victimized, when I’m caught in a change over which I have no control, I "pick myself up, dust myself off" and continue to move forward.

T / F 16. I don’t hold onto the "way things used to be," but instead move into "the way things are now."

T / F 17. In order to make a necessary change, I am willing to risk disapproval and lack of support from others.

T / F 18. When something positive happens for someone that might change our relationship, I don’t let my fears get in the way of being supportive of that person.

Need Help?
If changes in your life are causing difficulty, or if you need help in developing some inner resources to cope with change, don’t hesitate to make an appointment with me. I can help.

9/11 Global Peace Intention Experiment – 11/28/2011 5:52:00 PM

Tens of thousands of people from all over the world are joining together for the tenth anniversary of 9/11 for a remarkable experiment: to discover whether their collective intention can bring greater peace to an area of conflict. The experiment is being monitored and measured by a team of scientists from the Universities of California, Arizona, and Princeton.

The 9/11 Peace Intention Experiment, organized by Lynne McTaggart (author of The Intention Experiment) will take place in a 20-minute period every day for eight days. As such it will replicate the 2008 Peace Intention Experiment, carried out on Sri Lanka, which showed a 74% reduction of violence after the experiment and a demonstrable effect when studied through statistical time analysis.

Monitoring the effects will be a scientific team comprising University of Arizona psychologist Dr. Gary Schwartz, University of St. Petersburg State University physicist Dr. Konstantin Korotkov, Dr. Roger Nelson, a psychologist formerly of Princeton University and current director of the Global Consciousness Project, and Jessica Utts, a professor of statistics at the University of California at Irvine.

The 9/11 Intention Experiment marks the latest of 23 scientifically controlled, web-based experiments carried out by The Intention Experiment to test the power of thought to change the physical world. Thousands of volunteers from 90 countries around the world have participated in rigorous, laboratory-controlled experiments. Twenty of these experiments have shown significant positive results. Dr. Gary Schwartz and his team at the Laboratory for Advances in Consciousness and Health at the University of Arizona reported the results of six experiments in a scientific paper presented at a recent Society for Scientific Exploration conference.

How to Participate in the 9/11 Peace Intention Experiment:

Register TODAY. (The site gets very busy on the days of the experiment, so register now, so that you can login easily on the days of the experiment.) Even if you have registered for Intention Experiments before, you will have to register on www.IntentionExperiment911.com.

Note the dates and times. The 9/11 Peace Intention Experiment will run for 8 consecutive days, starting on Sunday September 11, 2011, each day at 1 pm Eastern Daylight Savings Time, with the last one on Sunday, September 18.

Spread the word! Tell your likeminded friends about the experiment, so they can participate. Urge them to register ahead so they can quickly get through on the days of the experiment.

May Peace Be Within Us!

Boycott T-Mobile – 11/9/2010 1:14:00 PM

In April 2010 the PEW Research Center stated that 75% of children ages 12-17 now have cell phones. Capitalizing on that sad and scary statistic, in September T-Mobile began heavily promoting a "Kids Are Free" incentive in which they provide free service of up to three lines and free cell phones for children. This is the moral equivalent of a drug pusher handing out free drugs to kids to get them hooked. In France it is illegal for cell phone companies to even market to children, let alone give them free phones and free service. Another tragic example of how the US is in the dark ages when it comes to concern for the health and safety of its citizens, especially the young. The research clearly shows that, due to their developments stages, children are highly susceptible to adverse health effects of electromagnetic radiation from cell phones. Shame on you T-Mobile.

What is wrong with this picture? – 9/21/2010 12:09:00 AM

Something called "No OM Yoga" is gaining popularity across the country. It promises all of the health effects "without the spiritual stuff." This comes on the heels of Power Yoga, Warrior Yoga, Weight Loss Yoga, and Yoga Burn. Yogananda’s ashes must be churning in their urn. Then today in my Inbox came an announcement of a meditation CD. You listen for just a few minutes and it produces states that have been "measured by brain analysis equipment as "deeper"than those reached by Zen Monks." Is there no end to our consumer mentality in which we are always trying to get something for nothing? Last I heard there are no short cuts to enlightenment.

Is Your Ego Twisted? – 3/16/2010 10:03:00 PM

Cathy (not her real name) came to see me to work on an issue of low self-esteem. She felt everything was her fault, no matter what. Her self-talk was characterized by put downs and if those around her were unhappy she was convinced it was because of some failing on her part. Cathy was well aware of her low self-image and her need to please others. What she wasn’t aware of was her egotism.

We tend to think of egotism in the inflated sense (see how great and wonderful I am!). But the ego can also take a deflated form (see how bad and wrong I am) and it is ego just the same. Whether I am thinking I am great or awful, it’s still all about me. If I am stuck in thinking I make people unhappy, I have done something wrong and it’s all my fault, I am constantly drawing attention to myself. I’m actually saying that I have power over others: I have the power to make others unhappy and I have the power to cause these bad things to happen. This is convoluted egotism.

Seeing the hidden side of an issue can help shift it significantly. Lending energetic support to these kinds of “ah-ha” shifts can help make the change permanent.

If you’d like to discover and change hidden aspects of yourself, come to my Spring Cleaning for the Soul workshop on April 17 in Hawaii (Maui, Kihei).

I use an energy-based “issue detector” method to go behind-the-scenes and uncover hidden blockages and limiting beliefs that no longer serve you. Once these are brought into the light of consciousness I use my energy-based toolkit to find the “just right” techniques to raise the frequency and support lasting change.

Right after the workshop I’m offering training in these techniques starting April 18.

I left Maui on March 31 and landed in Dallas, where I visited family (my dad even flew in from Minnesota) and with his help we shipped out almost 100 books to various bookstores. The very first event was in Austin at the Hill Country Fitness Center. The presentation and book were very well received. Off to a good start!

My mom, who lives in a retirement center in Dallas, has the perfect "little old lady car" that she loving loaned to me for my tour--a 1999 Toyota Camry in mint condition with only 22,000 miles on it! I then drove cross-country to San Francisco where the tour begins in earnest.

Yes, that’s me on the book cover. It’s a photo that was taken by Bob Pedersen when we were visiting the Chihuli exhibit at the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco last September. The image at the top of the photo is one of Dale Chihuli’s glass sculptures that was suspended from the ceiling. Bob spontaneously said, "Stand over there and reach up to that piece," which I did, and he shot the photo. Jay Ligda was with us and took pictures of Bob taking pictures (meta-photography?!). Check it out at tinyurl.com/endless-energy-photos . Later Bob and I slightly modified the photo to give it the blurred effect, making it look a little more "energized."

The Book is Here! – 4/10/2009

With joyful heart I am pleased to announce the long-awaited arrival of my book, "Endless Energy: The Essential Guide to Energy Health."

The book is about human energy--where it comes from, where it goes and how to have more of it consistently. It takes the new science of energy medicine, translates it into clear and simple terms, then spells out easy ways to maintain energy health. This is the new Home Health Guide for the 21st Century!

The fields of energy psychology, energy kinesiology, epigenetics (beyond genetics), and energy medicine have vastly altered what is known about how we function. But much of this life-altering information has not made it into the mainstream. Endless Energy puts these revolutionary ideas into your hands in easy to understand and practical ways.

Entangled Minds – 3/21/2008

Dean Radin is one of the foremost scientists researching subtle energies and subtle energy phenomena. He has published over a hundred articles and books on related topics. He started life as a professional violinist but at this point, the majority of his career is focused on experimentally probing the far reaches of human consciousness. He is especially intrigued by poorly understood phenomena like intuition, gut feelings and psi phenomena. I had the pleasure of meeting Dean a few years ago at the annual ISSSEEM conference in Colorado. I found him to be extremely approachable, genuinely kind, and downright amazing in his ability to take complex concepts and transduce them down into easily understandable terms.

Last year Dean published a book entitled, Entangled minds: Extrasensory experiences in a quantum reality. Entanglement is the term used to describe the infinite interrelationships found to exist throughout space and time. According to the book’s preface: "Scientists are now finding that there are ways in which the effects of microscopic entanglements "scale up" into our macroscopic world. . . . There are theoretical descriptions showing how tasks can be accomplished by entangled groups without the members of the group communicating with each other in any conventional way. Some scientists suggest that the remarkable degree of coherence displayed in living systems might depend in some fundamental way on quantum effects like entanglement. Others suggest that conscious awareness is caused or related in some important way to entangled particles in the brain. Some even propose that the entire universe is a single, self-entangled object.

For centuries, scientists assumed that everything can be explained by mechanisms analogous to clockworks. But over the course of the 20th century, we’ve learned that this common sense assumption is wrong. When the fabric of reality is examined very closely, nothing resembling clockworks can be found. Instead, reality is woven from strange, "holistic" threads that aren’t located precisely in space or time. Tug on a dangling loose end from this fabric of reality, and the whole cloth twitches, instantly, throughout all space and time." To learn more, visit Dean’s website at

How to Make Energized Water – 12/22/2007

To Make Energized Water:

* Find a quiet place in which you can focus without distraction.
* Be as physically comfortable as possible.
* Take a couple of deep breaths.
* Close your eyes and intentionally shift your awareness away from an outer focus toward an inner focus, awakening your inner senses.
* Using your intent, focus on one desired positive quality that you want to invoke in yourself and your life (i.e., peace, clarity, trust, understanding, joy, insight, or love, etc.).
* Hold a capped bottle of water in both hands. Focus your attention on the water inside the bottle and very clearly direct your chosen intent into the water. Do this for about 30 seconds.
* Then vigorously shake the bottle for about 15 seconds to activate the water, helping it to absorb your intent.
* Enjoy your newly structured water.

Water of Life (part 2) – 12/22/2007

Water is a unique substance that has special properties. There is nothing else quite like it on the planet. First, it is a great conductor of electricity, which is why being on a boat in an electrical storm is not a good idea. Water has the ability to carry other energies as well. One of the most fascinating of its many qualities is that water has the capacity to take on the energy imprint of what it comes in contact with. This is most evident in the field of homeopathy where water is routinely imprinted with substances that are successfully used in healing a variety of illnesses. Structured water employs the same principle.

In addition to adapting to substances, water is also highly susceptible to words and to human intent. Perhaps this is why religious people have been making and using holy water since time immemorial. The recent research of Dr. Masaru Emoto verifies the capacity of water to change its structure in response to words and the intent embedded in them. Since energy and information comprise your etheric body, water is intrinsic to the proper functioning of this body. However, not just any water. Pure, fresh, vitalized water is best.

By the time it reaches your household tap, most water has passed through someone’s sewer or a toxic industrial conduit (Pitchford). Water is endlessly recycled in cities and chlorine, a known hazard even on the surface of the body, is routinely added. Bottled water is unregulated so you don’t know for sure what you are drinking, and the leeching effect of plastic from the bottle into the water makes it doubly undesirable. In addition, most bottled water sits in dark warehouses for long periods and eventually ends up bathed in fluorescent lights on store shelves. Chemicalizing water, trapping it in plastic bottles for prolonged periods, storing it in darkness or artificial light, all these factors combine to effectively kill the water. Dead water is unable to perform its vital function as an energy conductor between your physical and vital body.

The solution is not an easy one. The best water for etheric health is water that is moving, exposed to natural sunlight, has just emerged from the earth on its own, and is clean. This type of water has high frequency energy vibration and is teeming with vitality. I am describing natural spring water, of course, but not many of us can hike out and gather pristine spring-fed water to quench our thirst. Increasing human population and expanding urban development makes water that meets this description scarce. We can only attempt to replicate some of its qualities: purity, sunlight, movement, and high frequency energy.

You can take control of the purity, movement and sunlight aspects of your water by using a home water filter. This way you’ll know what you are getting in terms of purity and need not rely on the claims of an unregulated bottled water industry. Check filter specifications before buying to make sure the filter removes a long list of known toxins and not just superficial impurities. Look for research to back up claims. In general, you get what you pay for. Pour-through pitcher type filters only do a surface cleaning of the water. Under-the-counter models have more filter capacity and clean better. Reverse osmosis units tend to work well, as do distillation methods and some structured water units.

But you can structure your own water and bring sunlight, movement, and high frequency energy to it. Store the water in a clear glass bottle (not plastic or colored), cap it, and set it in direct sunlight for about 15 minutes to charge it. Before drinking it, try the recipe posted above.

Water of Life (part 1) – 12/22/2007

A couple of weeks ago Maui was awash for days with torrential rains, hurricane force winds, and intense flooding that took cars and homes and, thankfully, no human lives. Water, water everywhere! All of this got me thinking about that sacred liquid.

A Start Trek episode comes to mind. A terraforming station on planet Velara III discovers a microscopic life form within the sand of the planet. The silica-based creature kills one of the colonists to save itself from destruction. The Starship Enterprise utilizes its universal translator to communicate and hears the silica creature refer to humans as "ugly bags of mostly water." Although the assessment of ugliness may be debatable, the fact that we are mostly water is not. Your physical body is about 80% water. Your brain is the most water-consuming organ in your body; the next largest consumer is your lungs. Stay tuned for part II (coming above).

Contaminated light – 9/21/2007

The best lighting is the common household incandescent light bulb because it comes closest to replicating the balanced frequency spectrum of natural sunlight. This seems a simple solution to the lighting problem. However, some sates and even entire countries are in the process of prohibiting use of these bulbs. California and Canada are considering legislation to phase out the sale of incandescent bulbs by 2012 and Australia’s goal is 2010. The European Union has a similar plan. Requiring everyone to replace incandescent bulbs with fluorescents is prompted by energy conservation concerns. But it’s not only a bad idea for etheric health, it’s potentially bad for the environment. Fluorescent light bulbs contain toxic mercury, which will end up in the environment unless extensive recycling efforts are mandated to accompany these changes. Sounds like a good time to contact your legislators.

Some people have attempted to remedy the fluorescent light problem by using incandescent light bulbs that are marketed and labeled "full spectrum." Sadly, even so-called full spectrum lighting is bereft (www.dinshahhealth.org). Turns out these bulbs produce light that is virtually lacking in yellow frequencies, an essential nutrient for the etheric body. The same is true for full-spectrum fluorescents. They are lacking in yellow as well as red, plus they produce dirty energy. In other words, they are nutritionally deficient and contaminated. Often these factors are hidden in advertising when manufacturers’ color charts are depicted using "averaged" frequency levels.

Let There Be Light – 9/21/2007

Happy Autumnal Equinox! Autumn is a time of diminishing light. As the daylight hours fade, we may find ourselves indoors more but the etheric body likes natural sunlight. The sun produces a type of nutrient-rich energy this body thrives on. The Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and lack of vitamin D evident in people who do not get enough natural sunlight are just the tip of the iceberg. Lack of sun has been linked to various organ cancers, as well as flues and infections. The recent UV scare that has people covering their bodies and slathering their skin has led to an anemic etheric body. While I am not advocating tossing out the sunscreen and donning your birthday suit for a day at the beach, it is important that the etheric body get some natural light. The equivalent of 10 minutes of afternoon sunlight on unclothed skin every day is recommended (Kim Ridley, Are You Getting Enough Sun?, Ode, Sept. 2007, p. 67--69).

Whether it’s sun-phobia or busy lifestyle, more people are staying indoors and for longer periods. Instead of exposure to natural sunlight, the etheric body is then fed an artificial diet. Artificial light is substandard and often lacking in many of the essential nutrients of the sun. Through use of a spectroscope it’s possible to analyze the ingredients of various light sources. Natural sunlight contains all the colors of the rainbow in uniform frequency patterns. In contrast, fluorescent light contains drastically inconsistent frequencieslarge energy peaks in the yellow, green and violet ranges. This is of special concern because florescent tube lighting is so prevalent in public places and compact fluorescent bulbs are increasingly used in home lighting. In electrician’s parlance, inconsistent energy frequencies are commonly referred to as "dirty energy." Through continuous exposure to fluorescent lighting, the etheric body is fed the energy equivalent of contaminated food.

Subtle Energy Conferences – 6/21/2007

If you are reading this blog, you are obviously interested in subtle energies. I am honored to be presenting at two amazing conferences in June and want to take this opportunity to encourage you to attend. Both are profound opportunities to learn more about subtle energies from the foremost experts in this arena (and no, I’m not just saying that because I am presenting!). Read on.

The International Society for the Study of Subtle Energies and Energy Medicine (ISSSEEM) has been formally studying energy phenomena since 1989. One of the oldest and most respected organizations for the scientific study of subtle energies, their conference this year is in Boulder, Colorado on June 21-27. Their conference theme is, "The Science of the Miraculous." Keynote speakers include Matthew Fox, experts on crop circles, the unified field, and Dr. Amit Gaswami from "What the Bleep Do We Know?" Chek them out at www.issseem.org.

The Energy Kinesiology Association (EnKA) and the Touch For Health Kinesiology Association (TFHKA) are sponsoring a joint conference in Salt Lake City Utah June 6-9. The theme of this year’s conference is "Energy Medicine: From Theory to Practice." Keynote speakers are Donna Eden, author of the popular book "Energy Medicine," and Dr. Jim Oschman, scientist, researcher, and Past President of ISSSEEM. Check it out online at

Nutricide – 6/21/2007

A convicted Nazi war criminal sits in prison thinking of new ways to take over the world. During those long uninterrupted days, he realizes that to control a people you simply have to control their supply of food, water or air. He determines that he cannot easily control the world’s air or water supplies but he can control the food supply. He devises a long term plan. The target date is December 31, 2009. He concludes he must be stealthy. It takes over 40 years but by 2007 the plan is almost completely implemented. It is going better than expected. Only two and a half years to go.

Sounds like a sci-fi thriller but unfortunately it is not. The plan is called The Codex Alimentarius and the goal is total nutritional control. Already ratified by many countries and the World Health Organization, it is slated to become law in the U.S. on December 31, 2009. The important thing to know about Codex is that it is a TRADE agreement, not a health agreement. Since most nutrient companies (vitamins, herbs, and minerals) have been bought up by chemical companies, the threat is very real. Codex affects not only nutritional supplements but also food itself, the lifeblood of human existence.

To learn more about the threat and to sign a petition to help stop it, visit www.HealthFreedomUSA.com. This is the website of Natural Solutions Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating people about health concerns. This organization was instrumental in stopping a bill that would mandate adding toxic fluoride to infant formula. The website contains an extremely informative and well done video featuring Dr. Rima Laibow, a Medical Doctor who has dedicated her life and skills to helping educate people about crucial health issues. The 40 minutes to watch the video is time well spent.

Fat Food – 6/21/2007

In the US, one-third of adults are categorized as obese and about two-thirds fall into the category of being overweight. By comparison, in France just slightly more than 9 percent of citizens are obese and fewer than a third are overweight. Still, recently the French government has taken the pro-active stance of ordering food ads to carry cautions telling the French to stop snacking, do more exercise and eat more healthily.
Attempting to avoid the U.S. plight, other European countries have similar restrictions in place. Sweden and Norway already forbid broadcast advertising aimed at children. Ireland has imposed a ban on TV ads for candy and fast food. They also prohibit using celebrities and sports stars to promote junk food to children. Britain has also mandated nutritional guidance for food packages.
France’s new health rules affect advertisements on television, radio, billboards and the Internet for processed, sweetened or salted food and beverages. Companies that refuse to run the messages are fined 1.5 percent of the cost of the ad. The money goes to the National Institute for Health Education. Apparently the coca cola company has complied in France. A coke ad seen on a billboard in France recently read: "For your health, eat at least five fruits and vegetables a day."

Fake Food – 6/21/2007

Did you know that most of us are consuming genetically modified (GMO) food without even knowing it? Already in the US food supply 89% of soybeans and 63% of corn is genetically modified (and 83% of cotton). Now the FDA is looking into allowing both milk and meat from cloned animals to be on the market without labeling it as such. Yet, the vast majority of people in the U.S. (over 70%) do not want GMO food. What’s wrong with this picture?! What we really need is to clone Al Gore and have him take on this issue, help us organize, and politicize it.

Unhappy Meals – 6/21/2007

Earlier this year, New York Times columnist Michael Pollan wrote an extensive article called Unhappy Meals. The bottom line was that we should "eat food." What prompted Pollan to take over 12 columns of newsprint to say this is that most of what passes off as food is not really food. Instead, what we find on our grocery store shelves are products of the food science industry, most of which have proven to be less beneficial--and sometimes even harmful--to health. Step away from the grocery store. Return to the garden.

Let Them Eat Gas – 6/21/2007

The growing dependence on fossil fuels is taking its toll on the food supply. At first it seemed that corn-based ethanol was the welcomed answer to rising gas prices. Now with government subsidies, rising prices and growing demand, farmers are being lured away from growing food crops and instead are growing fuel crops. The result is scarcity of edible corn and sky-rocketing prices for corn along with everything that has corn in it (which is just about every food product in existance). Mexico recently saw rioting in protest of the prohibitively high price of tortillas, a Mexican staple. What will we do when all the food is gone?

Subconscious Mind or Etheric Brain? – 3/21/2007 7:05:00 PM

A recent New York Times article questioning free will describes an experiment done in the 1970s by Benjamin Libet, a physiologist at the University of California. Apparently, Dr. Libet wired up the brains of volunteers to an electroencephalogram and told the volunteers to make random motions, like pressing a button or flicking a finger, while he noted the time on a clock. The results showed that brain signals associated with these actions occurred half a second before the subject was conscious of deciding to make them. In other words, the order of brain activities seemed to start with perception of motion, and then decision, rather than the other way around. Dr. Libet’s results have been reproduced by other researchers over the years. The interpretation has consistently been that the conscious brain is only playing catch-up to what the unconscious brain was already doing.

Because modern science does not recognize the existence of an energy body, or etheric body, unexplainable phenomena is typically assigned to the subconscious. But what if we factor in the etheric brain? Could it be that what is commonly understood as the "unconscious" is really our etheric brain? Would this mean then that the etheric brain is actually "controlling" our physical brain? As the energy "blueprint" for the physical brain, the etheric brain is the precursor to thought and action. It seems that such experiments do not prove that we are essentially unconscious. Instead, they help legitimize the existence of the etheric brain where, in fact, the physical brain is playing catch-up to what the etheric brain (our real brain) is already doing.

The Power to Make All Things New – 3/21/2007 7:03:00 PM

Happy Spring Equinox
Spring is a time of newness and renewal. I think of the phrase, "the power to make all things new." An interaction comes to mind from a talk I gave at the Ohana Connection yesterday. A question was asked about the new technologies that can track and measure subtle energies, make an interpretation, and treat energy imbalances all in one sitting. (They seem to have the power to make all things new!) You may have heard about some of these computer-based programs. Although the participant was asking about the effectiveness of such machines, it begs the question: Does this kind of approach have the potential to solve all of our health problems?

Those of us who are interested in subtle energies and the energy body would be among the first to say this is a huge step forward. Typically, Western Medicine fails at treating the true cause of most illnesses by attempting to stop symptoms only and by not recognizing the vital role of the energy body. The energy body is the "blue-print" for the physical body. Any illness that eventually manifests in the physical body already pre-exists in the energy body as an energy imbalance. With the advent of the new energy technologies, which work exclusively on the energy level, the problem seems to be solved. But is it really?

I would say probably not, for the following reasons: 1) The physical body is merely a stage that displays deeper subtle energy imbalances; 2) The energy body is not an end in itself. It is an interface between the physical body and the vast array of more refined (higher frequency) energy levels; 2) If we truly comprehend the vast array of energy frequencies that comprise us humans, then we must acknowledge that we are primarily energy; 3) Since energy can neither be created nor destroyed, neither can we. In other words, we don’t die. And the physical body is not where the action is (intended pun); 4) Consequently, using subtle energy technologies to solve issues that impact the physical body may help the physical body but may not benefit the many other aspects that comprise us.

The bottom line is, there are no short-cuts, quick fixes, or silver bullets when it comes to health, which is to say, when it comes to wholeness. The return to wholeness is essentially an inside job that is achieved most efficiently through the expansion of consciousness. And it is consciousness that truly has the power to make all things new.

Does this mean we should never use the new energy technologies? I don’t think so. It simply means we must understand them for what they are: An important step in the process; a vital stage in the development of understanding and fully living who we truly are.

Healthy Fast Food
Want to eat healthy but have no time? Dark greens and brightly colored fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamins and minerals and contain valuable phytonutrients. Ongoing research shows that eating 7 to 13 servings of fruits and vegetables a day may help prevent cancer, heart disease, diabetes and stroke, reduce the aging process, and help build strong bones and eyes. But how many of us eat 7 to 13 servings a day?! Well now you can consume the equivalent of 10 servings of fruits and veggies in a bioactive form through a product called Nanogreens. It’s a once-a-day day, easy mixing green drink powder that in my opinion tastes great and has only 50 calories. Best of all, it is bioactive which means it preserves the synergistic biologic circumstance of natural food. A jar of Nanogreens retails for $49.95 for a month’s supply.

The Shadow Knows – 12/21/2006 6:43:00 PM

Happy Winter Solstice
The winter solstice marks the shortest day and the longest night of the year in the Northern hemisphere. The word solstice means stopping of the sun. It comes from Latin solstitium, from sol, "sun" and -stitium, "a stoppage." The sun appears at its lowest point in the sky. How does this happen? Since Earth is actually nearer the sun in January than it is in June (by three million miles) what causes the solstice is something completely different. The Earth leans slightly on its axis like a spinning top held in its off-center position. Astronomers have pinpointed the precise angle of the tilt. It’s 23 degrees and 27 minutes off the perpendicular to the plane of orbit. This tilt is what causes the variety of our seasons. Because of the tilt, the Northern hemisphere is now leaning farthest away from the sun causing the longest night.

The shortest day and longest night seems like a good time to reflect upon the shadow, the name given to the less-than-conscious part of our psyche. We humans live in a dual world and, as such, we are prone to dichotomies. Thus, we may ask: Do I transcend the darkness of my shadow or do I go into it? Almost more than we love dichotomies, we love to discard anything that gets in our way. So, the obvious answer for fast spiritual advancement is to transcend the shadow because it clearly gets in the way of the Light of consciousness.

The problem with shadow-transcendence, though, is that it doesn’t work very well. In fact, I don’t know anyone who has succeeded at this. Some have enjoyed small, short-term successes. Others have mistaken shadow-transcendence for denial and then been forced back into the depths of the shadow at some point in an unconscious effort toward balance. Still others flip back and forth as a way of life. And those I know who attempt true shadow-transcendence on an ongoing basis seem to succeed only when isolated, removed from the challenges of ordinary people and everyday life.

In fact, the striving for shadow-transcendence has given birth to a new pathology called spiritual bypassing, a term recently coined by transpersonal psychologist John Wellwood. Spiritual bypassing happens when a person uses spirituality to mask or compensate for other inadequacies. This can take many insidious forms. For example, a person who spends all their time meditating, swimming with dolphins, or volunteering for the cause while they can’t pay their rent. Or a person who is so "spiritually sensitive" that s/he can’t be around anybody else because they have "bad energy." Or the person who appears to have peacefully transcended their shadow but is really just completely disconnected from their feelings and their body. In each of these instances, spirituality is used as a decoy to disguise a real problem.

I suspect that transcending the shadow doesn’t work because it’s not supposed to. Maybe we are not meant to overcome the shadow. Instead, maybe we are meant to use it to the fullest. This does not have to mean getting lost in the depths of the dark, rather, it can mean using the shadow in service of the Light. Since we are all essentially One, the more of our own shadow we are able to reveal and transform, the more we help uplift all of humanity.

We can’t do this kind of service work by transcending the shadow. Instead, we have to go into the darkness of the shadow and work with it in a conscious, purposeful and ongoing way. We must know the strengths and limitations of our own, unique shadow-self so that we can develop the strengths and transform the limitations. We can study ourselves, study our minds, and study our lives.

Meditation and contemplation are fantastic tools for this when used properly. The aim of meditation is not to disconnect, escape, or relax. The goal of meditation for the present time is to research your self, to experiment and incorporate the results gleaned so that you may come to discover what you are and what you are not. When this endeavour is carried out in the service of Spirit, the shadow becomes transmuted into the Light of consciousness.

In service of the Light, we go into the darkness. Once refined, the Light-transmuted shadow then wants to and can best serve humanity, helping to actualize essential Oneness by having become more unified and whole itself.

Tis the season to give. What better opportunity to practice conscious gifting, giving purpose to your money by directing it to mindful gift selections. You can use your money as a resource to support products that you feel good about and also inspire your gift recipients to live more energy healthy lives. Below is a short list of gift suggestions that are energy healthy and have received the "consciousness expanding" seal of approval. Enjoy! And may your holidays be blessed with fulfillment of your heart’s desires.

The Gift of Inspiration
Every once in a while you run across an exceptional book that you just can’t stop looking at or talking about and you have to share. "Seeds of Awareness: A Journey to Self-Realization" is such a book. An unsurpassed opportunity to intimately connect with life’s beauty through the camera lens and perceptual viewfinder of a spiritual adept. The Gift of Safety
Cell phones seem to have become a near necessity these days but the dangers of their use are not well publicized. The fact is that cell phones emit electromagnetic radiation as well as microwave frequencies. Therefore two levels of protection are usually needed: Something to counteract the electromagnetic radiation and something to counteract the microwave frequencies. You can protect yourself and your loved ones with the gift of safe cell phone use. I recommend the BioShield, a nifty little device abut the size of a deck of cards that you can carry in your purse or hook onto your belt. It counters electromagnetic radiation and microwaves. Check it out at www.hbsdesign.com/Bio-Shield.htm $130 each. Also check out www.rfsafe.com/index.html for articles and a variety of cell phone protection devices including pocket shields, air tube headsets and more!

The Gift of Clean Water
When I was in sixth grade I won an essay contest in my school because I wrote about the dangers of water and air pollution. In the essay I described people having to wear gas masks and carry bottles of specially cleaned water. Little did I know the essay was foreshadowing. It is now common for people to drink bottled water and have air purifiers in homes and offices. My recommendation for effective drinking water filtration is the line of products designed and sold by the MultiPure company. Their filters are top of the line and affordable. They sell everything from countertop and under-the-sink models to shower filters. I am a MultiPure Distributor, so if you order please mention my name and I will get a small commission from your purchase at no extra cost to you. www.Multipure.com

Clean Water To Go!
If you value clean water, this is for you! Seychelle makes a nifty little personal sized water bottle that has a built in non-chemical filtration system. With it you can drink safely from any water source (except the ocean). It’s great for travel, hiking, or emergencies. This filter system removes 99.8% of odors, microorganisms, chemical contaminants and dissolved minerals in water. It can filter hundreds of gallons of contaminated water from the same filter. Only $29.95. Check it out at

Extreme Balance – 9/21/2006 6:32:00 PM

Is your life in balance? Do you feel balanced? So often when striving for balance we try to formulate our lives with "a little bit of this and a little bit of that," a kind of equal proportions recipe until we think we have achieved balance. For example, we may think that working for 40 hours a week is balanced by 20 hours of leisure that includes equal amounts of exercise, time with friends, relaxation, and meditation (5 hours each for a total of 20 hours). However, we may not realize that balance is achieved within us and is not determined by calculating equal amounts of external activities. Plus, it’s often the case that we are starting from a place of imbalance to begin with and so, to really achieve balance quickly, we have to do something extreme. The extreme balance effort can seem like more imbalance to the external observer.

To look at a simple example, Joe may try to achieve balance by the "equal proportions recipe" method mentioned earlier (5 hours each for a total of 20 hours) but suppose his life is characterized by being overweight and out of shape. In this case, true balance may be achieved by Joe doing 15 hours a week of exercise and cutting back on relaxation as well as time with friends in which he typically drinks too much and overeats. 15 hours of exercise could bring about true balance much faster, even though it appears to be out of balance in terms of proportion.

We must always ask ourselves what we are striving for. Balance for the sake of balance is mediocrity. True balance is best understood within the context of one’s immediate experience, grounded in inner awareness, and aligned with a specific purpose. This will bring about maximum effects in the least amount of time. Why settle for anything less?

Are You Telepathic? – 9/19/2006 7:01:00 PM

Rupert Sheldrake is a biologist and author of more than 75 scientific papers and ten books. He is most well known for his work on identifying the principle of morphic resonance and the morphogenic field, sometimes referred to as "The Hundredth Monkey" phenomenon. It is a scientifically based theory of unity in which everything in existence is shown to be interconnected.

Sheldrake’s descriptive book titles give a sense of his work: "Dogs That Know When Their Owners Are Coming Home" and "The Sense of Being Stared At, and Other Aspects of the Extended Mind." His website www.Sheldrake.org features online experiments that you can participate in, some with a partner, and log your results.

The online experiments each take about four minutes. They include experiments on telepathy using text messaging on your cell phone and another that studies email telepathy. Then there is the photo telepathy test in which you sense when someone is staring at a photo of you. There is also an online staring experiment to test your ability to tell whether someone is looking at you or not. Go on and give it a try. I sense that you’re interested!

Your Body’s Burden – 9/18/2006 7:04:00 PM

The handyman who arrived to install my ceiling fan got grease on his hands. When I offered him soap and water he said that he washes his hands with the chemical lubricant WD40. I couldn’t help but mention that the WD40 goes right into his blood stream. In fact, everything we put on our skin goes immediately into our blood.

Our skin is a semi-permeable membrane. That’s how nicotine patches work, for example. So basically, if you are going to put something on your skin, you might as well drink it. Would you drink hair dye, hand lotion, shaving cream, perfume, deodorant and nail polish? Probably not. But by using these products, the chemicals all end up in the bloodstream, toxifying the body. Personal care products are just the tip of the iceberg.

To find out your body’s burden, check out http://extras.insidebayarea.com/bodyburden/bodyburden.html and take the quiz. It’s free, easy, and shows that beauty goes way more than skin deep.

The Secret is Out – 9/11/2006 12:48:00 PM

I received many emails asking if I have seen "The Secret," a film based on the channeled information from Abraham to Esther Hicks. So I finally saw it. The film contains a few golden kernels toward the end but you have to sift through a lot of bling bling to get them.

My concern is not only about the blatant materialism that is advocated in the film but also about the reverence for emotions. The bottom line is that the spiritual life is supposed to make you comfortable (physically, emotionally). But isn’t spirituality about higher aspirations than that? This kind of "feel good" spirituality often equates to consumerist spirituality--embrace (buy) whatever turns you on and avoid whatever turns you off.

I’m not saying the spiritual life has to involve suffering and poverty. I am saying it is more complex than: "If it feels good, it must be spiritual." My soul doesn’t want chicken soup.

Economics versus Health – 8/20/2006 12:25:00 PM

The headline reads "Japan Ends U.S. Long-Grain Rice Imports" and the story is buried in the "Business" section. It gets cast as an economic issue when, in fact, it is a major health issue that affects us all. A more accurate headline would read: "Food Contaminated by Unsafe Genetically Engineered Strain." Genetically engineered rice not approved for human consumption was discovered in commercially available long-grain rice in the U.S. It was detected by a German company, who notified U.S. officials. The strain is not approved for sale in the United States but was imported to Japan. Upon learning of the contamination from Federal officials, Japan suspended its U.S. long-grain rice imports.

The real story here is how easily food can become contaminated by genetically altered strains because there is no way of controlling it. Seeds fly in the wind and get carried by birds; plants cross pollinate all the time. Genetically engineered plants easily mingle with others, whether they are approved for human consumption or not. But this is a story we do not like to be told.

Water Wars? – 6/21/2006 11:08:00 AM

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mikhail Gorbachev wants world leaders to adopt a treaty guaranteeing clean water, a task he says is more challenging than ending the nuclear arms race during the Cold War. Gorbachev called for an international water treaty during an April 21 keynote address to the U.N. Commission on Sustainable Development. He advocates a binding agreement that makes access to water and basic sanitation a human right, holds nations responsible for providing it, and governs how freshwater resources are managed and shared.

In 1993 Gorbachev founded Green Cross International to encourage business, government and private organizations to collaborate and find solutions to environmental problems.

About 2.5 billion people worldwide lack water sanitation services, and 5 million die from waterborne diseases each year, according to Global Green USA, the American branch of Green Cross. Nearly 1.2 billion people do not have clean water to drink.

Integral Naked – 4/9/2005 10:04:00 AM

Ken Wilber is probably one of the greatest philosophers alive today. His contributions to the field of transpersonal psychology have been monumental. His is a highly sophisticated thinker who writes in the Ageless Wisdom tradition but does not specifically identify himself as being aligned with the Bailey teachings. Nonetheless, his cosmology deeply resonates with the esoterics.

The website IntegralNaked.org is inspired by Wilber’s work. It is a vast collection of information by modern key players who are contributing to integration of body, mind, and spirit. The trailer says the site is dedicated to taking all of the philosophies of the world and weaving them together into a coherent whole and identifying the patterns that emerge.

The website is slick and fascinating. In addition to Wilber, it features folks like Deepak Chopra, David Deida, Caroline Myss, Larry Dossy, Roger Walsh, and Michael Murphy. The list goes on and on. The site also features video clips, top-rated talks, and ten minute lessons. Stop by and take the tour. You can visit the site for free, and subscribe for $10/month. They are offering a coupon special right now in which you get the first month free and if you don’t like it you can unsubscribe at no cost and no risk. Check it out at http://www.IntegralNaked.org.

From Maui To You: Whale Songs – 11/19/2005 8:19:00 PM

Just off the Kihei coast on Maui where I live is the Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary. In November 2000, local resident Dan Sythe hooked up a hydrophone that brings the songs of the whales to the world via the internet. Check out the website at http://www.whalesong.net and click on the whale. When the whales are here the songs are broadcast live. The first whale of the season was sighted in early November.

Every autumn, the humpback whales make their annual migration swimming about 3,500 miles from Alaska to Hawaii! The journey takes them about a month. They mate and give birth here and then swim back to Alaska. And they don’t sleep! Whales have to "remember" to breathe so instead of sleeping, they shut off half of their brain and rest while the other half remains attentive. Maybe two heads are better than one.

Violating the Laws of Physics – 5/29/2005 5:30:00 AM

I am in China right now and saw one of the most incredible performances of my life in Beijing. Put on by Buddhist monks, "The Legend of Kung Fu" tells the story of a young man’s journey from humble beginnings to enlightened Master. In this riveting show we see Kung Fu Masters performing astounding feats such as lying with their full weight on pointed spears and sharp swords and breaking solid steel rods and concrete slabs with their heads. (The show is performed every night.) Such impact would ordinarily cause a concussion or blackout, not to mention the sword and spear lacerations. Yet the monks remain unharmed because they know how to work with energies in such a way that the impact of the object is deflected by the etheric body. In effect, the object never touches their physical body because the bulk of the impact is absorbed by their etheric body. Check it out at http://www.legendofkungfu.com.

A second violation of the laws of physics was witnessed when I visited a Buddhist museum in Lhasa, Tibet. There I saw three stones, each of which had a deep and clear impression of a footprint in it. The stones were very old and two of the the footprints were adult prints and one was that of a child. These were footprints made by monks who had placed their bare foot on the stone and used their "chi" or subtle energy to make an impression in the stone. The small footprint was made by one Lama when he was just two years old.

Store Wars (As in Grocery) – 10/3/2005 3:29:00 PM

For an amusing break, check out the Organic Trade Association website to see "Cuke Skywalker" and "Darth Tater" in action. Free Range Studios has "produced" (intended pun) a short video that is a light-hearted and educational parody of the Star Wars drama. Check it out at http://www.storewars.org/flash.

Health Resource Extraordinaire – 3/4/2005 12:43:00 PM

The World Research Foundation is a clearinghouse for alternative and conventional approaches to health and healing. They are dedicated to helping people take control of their lives through learning about healing approaches from all over the world. That’s why they call themselves the World Research Foundation. They are a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing freedom of choice through access to in-depth and accurate health related information.

The organization has been around for 20 years. They have an extensive library that is categorized by modality and illness name. You can order affordable information packets that I have heard arrive at your doorstep in record time. I have also heard that their photocopying could be better, but who can complain?

Missing from their extensive library of health information packets is a listing for kinesiology muscle testing. I contacted them to ask why. I was told they believe muscle testing can be a very good measuring device in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing. True enough. So I asked again, why not include it? My understanding of the response I got was that they do not see it as a modality in and of itself. They see it as an adjunct to many modalities such as acupuncture, homeopathy, chiropractics, nutrition, etc. But I believe it is an approach just like others such as Chinese Medicine or Ayurveda which include their own philosophies, methods, and treatments and are also incorporated into and used by other practitioners. I haven’t had a reply to that last email yet . . .

The World Research Foundation also has a nifty link on their website where you can register online and have part of your everyday, ordinary spending donated to their organization by participating merchants. At no cost to you! Seems a very worthwhile thing to do.
Check out their website at http://www.wrf.org.

To Blog Or Not To Blog – 3/3/2005 8:08:00 PM

I blog, you blog, we all blog for weblogs. Finally I discovered where the word blog comes from. It refers to a web log and is a contraction (as in web+log=blog). Apparently the word dates back to December of 1997 when Jorn Barger (yes, his name really is Jorn, not John) used the word blog on his weblog which he calls Robot Wisdom. Check it out at http://www.robotwisdom.com/weblogs.

When I was teaching at Esalen last month, one of the class participants said something like: "It would be really interesting to be able to follow your web surfing; to track the websites you visit." Well, a blog does just that. It gives a way of tracking websites and you can add your comments about the sites and share your list with interested others. According to my source above, Jorn that would be, the line between weblogs and journals is completely blurred. So, I intend to use this space as a kind of journal and blog, which is why I refer to it as my desk diary. Enjoy!
